The Zhytomyr club spent the entire second half with the minority.
"Dynamo" beat "Polesye" in the central match of the 13th round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) season 2024/25. The match at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi stadium in Kyiv ended with a score of 2:1.
The “White-Blues” opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the match – Vladislav Vanat accurately shot into the far corner after a pass from Mykola Shaparenko from the left flank.
In the 27th minute, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi's team increased their lead. After a pass from Oleksandr Tymchyk, the ball in the Zhytomyr penalty area hit defender Artem Smolyakov in the hand – the referee went to look at the moment on VAR and awarded a penalty. Andriy Yarmolenko calmly converted the 11-meter kick, scoring his 110th goal in the Ukrainian championship.
Before the break, Poliesie was left with one man down – Bohdan Mykhailychenko received a second yellow card in the 45th minute for a rough foul on Vitaliy Buyalsky and was sent off.
Despite playing with ten men, Imad Ashour's men reduced the deficit to a minimum in the second half – Oleksiy Gutsulyak scored after a corner in the 86th minute.
However, the Zhytomyr club could not do more – the Kiev team held on to the victory.
Review of the Dynamo – Poliesie match
Thanks to this victory, Dynamo (32 points) regained the lead in the UPL, overtaking Oleksandriya (32 points) on additional indicators. Poliesie (22 points) remained in fourth place, with Shakhtar (26 points) in third.
In the next round of the UPL, which will take place after the international break, Dynamo will host Chornomorets on November 23, and Poliesie will meet Zorya at home on November 25.
