Pixar and Disney unveil the first trailer for Toy Story 5, set for release in June 2026. Classic toys face new digital competition in the next chapter of the iconic franchise.

Pixar and Disney have released the first official trailer for the fifth instalment of the legendary Toy Story franchise, which is scheduled to premiere in cinemas in the summer of 2026, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to The Guardian. The upcoming film is already considered one of the most anticipated animated titles of next summer, continuing a story that has captivated audiences around the world for more than twenty years.

The new chapter places the familiar team of classic toys in a world increasingly shaped by advanced technology. In the debut trailer, the characters once again gather anxiously around a newly delivered package, sensing that another addition to the household may disrupt their place in a child’s life. This time, the “new rival” is Lilypad — a smart tablet-toy designed for modern entertainment, raising the question of whether long-loved figures can retain their emotional significance in a digital age.

Toy Story 5 is directed by Andrew Stanton, known for his work on acclaimed Pixar titles such as Finding Nemo and WALL-E, together with McKenna Harris, for whom this project marks her first full-length animation directorial credit. Harris has previously contributed to Pixar productions in various capacities, and the new collaboration aims to bring a fresh creative dynamic to the beloved universe.

In a statement, the studio described the production as both heartfelt and humorous, noting that the film explores how a group of traditional toys confronts rapid technological change while trying to stay relevant. Pixar and Disney emphasised that they are excited to share this initial glimpse with audiences worldwide.

This will be the first film in the franchise produced without the involvement of John Lasseter, the original director of Toy Story and former chief creative officer at Pixar and Disney. Lasseter departed from his position in 2018 following allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Toy Story series began in 1995, with the first four films earning a combined $3.3 billion at the global box office. The release of Toy Story 5 is scheduled for 19 June 2026 in international cinemas.
