The 2025 edition of The Game Awards concluded with the debut indie title Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive taking home the prestigious Game of the Year award, reports Baltimore Chronicle. Other nominees for the top honor included Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (Kojima Productions/Sony Interactive Entertainment), Donkey Kong Bananza (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo), Hades II (Supergiant Games), Hollow Knight: Silksong (Team Cherry), and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (Warhorse Studios/Deep Silver).
Held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the awards ceremony was broadcast across Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Twitch, showcasing the most acclaimed video games and creators of the year.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also won Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best RPG, Best Independent Game, and Best Debut Indie Game, while its music composer Lorien Testard earned Best Score and Music. The game’s voice performances, including Jennifer English, received recognition with a Best Performance award.
Other winners included Battlefield 6 (Battlefield Studios/EA) for Best Audio Design, Doom: The Dark Ages (id Software/Bethesda Softworks) for Innovation in Accessibility, and South of Midnight (Compulsion Games/Xbox Game Studios) for Games for Impact. No Man’s Sky (Hello Games) was named Best Ongoing, while Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian Studios) won Best Community Support.
In the Best Mobile Game category, Umamusume: Pretty Derby (Cygames Inc.) took the award. The Midnight Walk (MoonHood/Fast Travel Games) received Best VR/AR, and Hades II (Supergiant Games) was awarded Best Action. Hollow Knight: Silksong (Team Cherry) secured Best Action/Adventure, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was also named Best RPG.
Family-focused Donkey Kong Bananza (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo) was recognized as Best Family Game, FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles (Square Enix) won Best Sim/Strategy, and Mario Kart World (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo) received Best Sports/Racing. Arc Raiders (Embark Studios) took Best Multiplayer.
The Last of Us: Season 2 (HBO/PlayStation Productions) was awarded Best Adaptation, while Grand Theft Auto VI (Rockstar Games) was named Most Anticipated Game. Content Creator of the Year went to MoistCr1TiKaL, and Counter-Strike 2 (Valve) earned Best Esports Game. Chovy (Jeong Ji-hoon) won Best Esports Athlete, and Team Vitality took Best Esports Team.
Finally, the Players’ Voice award went to Wuthering Waves, highlighting the game most celebrated by the community for 2025.
