Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has declared May 8 as Victory Day over Nazism, signing an official proclamation to that effect. In the document, he emphasized that on this date, democratic nations around the world, including the United States, commemorate the ultimate defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing The White House.

Trump underscored the decisive role played by American troops in liberating Europe from Nazi rule and safeguarding global freedom. According to him, the victory over Nazism was made possible by the courage and sacrifice of millions of American soldiers who fought on the battlefields of World War II.

In his proclamation, Trump also spoke out against efforts to rewrite history, stating that the United States would not allow anyone to diminish the American people’s contribution to the defeat of fascism. He called on citizens to honor the memory of all those who perished fighting Nazism and to preserve the historical truth of those events.

This move is part of Trump’s presidential campaign, aimed at reinforcing patriotic values and reaffirming the United States’ identity as a victorious power in major historical conflicts. The decision to designate May 8 as Victory Day was made on the eve of the anniversary of Nazi Germany’s surrender.
