iOS 27 is now available as Apple’s latest major iPhone software update. It brings the new Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence tools and changes to the Liquid Glass interface. Apple released the update on September 14 for compatible iPhones, as noted by Baltimore Chronicle. The release was confirmed by Apple and reported by The Verge.
How to download iOS 27 on iPhone
The iOS 27 download is available over the air. Users do not need a computer or a developer account.
To install the update:
- open Settings on the iPhone;
- select General;
- open Software Update;
- wait for iOS 27 to appear;
- select the download and installation option.
Apple recommends connecting the device to power during major software updates. A stable Wi-Fi connection can also make the process faster. Availability may appear gradually on individual devices during the rollout.
Which iPhones support iOS 27
The new operating system has broad hardware support. However, installing iOS 27 does not automatically mean that every new AI feature will work.

This distinction matters because Siri AI relies on hardware capable of running Apple Intelligence. Apple lists the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and newer supported generations among compatible devices.
Siri AI arrives in beta with regional restrictions
The biggest change is the redesigned assistant. Siri AI can use personal context, understand information displayed on screen and perform actions across supported applications.
Apple describes the system as a more conversational and personalized version of Siri. A dedicated Siri app also lets users return to previous conversations.
There are restrictions at launch. Siri AI is initially available in English, while more languages are scheduled to follow. The feature is also unavailable on iPhone and iPad in the European Union at launch.
That means an iPhone can support iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence hardware without immediately providing access to the new assistant in every region.
How to activate Siri AI
Siri AI remains a beta feature and requires an additional activation step. According to MacRumors, Apple is using a waiting list for access.
After installing iOS 27, eligible users can open Settings, select Siri and choose the option to try Siri AI Beta. Access may not be granted immediately.
The new Siri therefore has separate requirements for hardware, language, region and activation. Updating the operating system alone is not enough.
What else changes with iOS 27
Apple has also refined its Liquid Glass design and expanded Apple Intelligence across the system. Changes affect tools including Photos, Camera and writing features.
The update introduces more interface customization, revised icons and additional lock-screen options. Apple has also worked on system performance and connectivity.
For many older supported iPhones, these changes will be more significant than Siri AI. They receive iOS 27, but not the complete AI package available on newer hardware.
