Bridgerton Lady Violet prequel is officially moving forward at Netflix. The limited series will explore Violet’s youth and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, as the Baltimore Chronicle editorial team notes.
Netflix confirmed the project on October 8, 2026. It becomes the second major Bridgerton spin-off after Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
What will the Lady Violet Bridgerton prequel be about?
The new series goes back decades before the romances followed in the main show. Its central relationship will be young Violet and her future husband, Edmund.
They eventually become parents to Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth.
“The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader,” Netflix teased when announcing the project.
The prequel gives the franchise a chance to show Violet before motherhood shaped most of her life. Her marriage to Edmund has previously existed largely through memories and family history.
Shonda Rhimes will lead the new Bridgerton series
Shonda Rhimes is directly involved in the project rather than serving only as an executive producer.
The confirmed creative team currently includes:
- Shonda Rhimes as writer, showrunner and executive producer;
- Nicholas Nardini as writer, showrunner and executive producer;
- Tom Verica as executive producer;
- Betsy Beers as executive producer.
Netflix and Shondaland are producing the limited series. Casting for young Violet and Edmund has not been announced.
No official title or release date has been revealed either. Netflix also has not confirmed how many episodes are planned.
Bridgerton Season 5 is already filming
The announcement arrives while the original series is preparing its next romance.

Season 5 follows Francesca Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza.
Netflix says production is underway outside London. The new episodes are scheduled to arrive in 2027.
Season 6 has also been officially ordered. Netflix originally confirmed that renewal in May 2025.
When will the Bridgerton Lady Violet prequel be released?
Netflix has not announced a premiere date.
There is also no confirmed production start or cast list yet. That means any specific release window circulating online remains speculative.
The project is nevertheless more than an early rumor. Netflix has formally announced the limited series and identified its central story and creative team.
For Bridgerton viewers, it also opens another part of the family history that the flagship series could only reference.
