The festival says the decision was not based simply on the appearance of furry costumes.
Organizers cited repeated incidents involving behavior that made other guests uncomfortable. They also reported unauthorized performances and refusals to cooperate with staff, security and first-aid teams.
Fursuits are now specifically covered by the festival’s headwear restrictions.
The official rules require headwear to be removable, event-appropriate and suitable for a family venue. Face coverings must also be removed while guests enter the village gates.
Several types of headwear may now be rejected:
- frightening or inappropriate masks;
- offensive prosthetics or face paint;
- non-thematic headwear;
- fursuits.
The restriction does not amount to a general costume ban. Visitors can still dress for the Renaissance theme if their clothing complies with festival rules.
