Maryland Tax Connect is now available to individual taxpayers and businesses across the state. Users can file returns, make payments, check refunds and manage tax accounts online. The service launched statewide on September 1 after a planned August shutdown, the Baltimore Chronicle reports.
Maryland Tax Connect Replaces iFile
The Comptroller of Maryland says the portal replaces several aging systems, including iFile and the previous online bill payment service. Maryland’s core tax technology was more than 30 years old.
The final migration required a statewide system shutdown from August 21 through August 31. Officials transferred more than 4 billion tax records before the platform went live.
WMAR 2 News reported restored access on September 2. The outlet noted that individuals and businesses can now use the unified tax portal.
What Maryland Taxpayers Can Do Online
The new service puts several common tax tasks inside one portal. Maryland taxpayers can now:
- file individual income tax returns, including Form 502;
- make tax payments online;
- check refund status;
- review transaction history and tax notices;
- access account information and manage tax obligations.
The official portal also offers guest filing and payment options for some services. Creating an account provides easier access to filing history and notices.
Taxpayers who previously used iFile must now submit new online filings through Maryland Tax Connect. The old iFile service remains read-only for previous filing history.

Officials Expect an Adjustment Period
The Comptroller’s Office expects an adjustment period as taxpayers and tax professionals learn the system. Staff are monitoring performance and taxpayer feedback following the migration.
| Service | Status After September 1 |

The agency is also addressing problems reported during the August transition. Additional support materials and system updates will be published as needed.
