President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed support for the United Nations Security Council’s decision to reinstate sanctions against Iran and emphasized the need for similar measures targeting Russia, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to the president’s social media post.
The head of state highlighted that Tehran has for years disregarded the demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the broader international community, undermining the established nuclear order. He stated that any country posing a threat to global peace and security must face strict and immediate sanctions.
Zelensky also drew attention to Russia’s actions, noting that it has, in his words, acted “in concert with Iran” by seizing a Ukrainian nuclear power plant along with its nuclear materials, effectively turning the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant into a major international nuclear threat.
In his statement, the president declared: “Reckless regimes that ignore fundamental norms of international law and pursue ambitions threatening nuclear security must receive a united and decisive international response.”
Volodymyr Zelensky further stressed that increasing international pressure on Russia and imposing sanctions on its nuclear sector are essential steps to uphold the global nuclear order.
