North Macedonia will host Junior Eurovision 2026 despite France winning 2025, marking the country's first time hosting the competition, reports Baltimore Chronicle.

The 2026 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted in North Macedonia, according to Baltimore Chronicle, reporting from the final press conference in San Marino, with details from Eurofestival News. Although France secured victory at the 2025 Junior Eurovision with 11-year-old singer Lou Deleuze performing “Ce Monde,” the rules of the children’s competition do not obligate the winning broadcaster to organize the following year’s contest, unlike the adult Eurovision. North Macedonia volunteered to host the 2026 contest, aiming to pave the way for a return to the adult Eurovision stage, from which it has been absent since 2022, when Andrea Koevska’s song “Circles” failed to advance beyond the semi-final.

This decision marks a historic first for North Macedonia, which has never hosted either the adult or the junior Eurovision Song Contest. Organizers from the country have expressed optimism that hosting the junior event will strengthen its music industry and international presence while engaging young performers and audiences across Europe. The press conference highlighted logistical plans, including venue selection and broadcasting arrangements, emphasizing that detailed preparations are already underway to ensure a successful and smoothly run contest.

Participation from countries across Europe is expected to be announced gradually, with North Macedonia coordinating closely with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to meet all requirements for stage design, voting procedures, and live broadcast standards. While the adult Eurovision remains a prominent fixture in European culture, the Junior Eurovision provides a platform for emerging young artists, often serving as a springboard for future careers in music.

The hosting of the 2026 contest in North Macedonia comes amid growing enthusiasm for youth-focused cultural events, aiming to combine entertainment with educational opportunities in performing arts. Broadcasters and local authorities are also exploring supplementary events, workshops, and media initiatives to complement the main contest and highlight the host nation’s cultural heritage. This marks a significant milestone for North Macedonia’s participation in international music events, reflecting both ambition and commitment to the Eurovision legacy.
