25-year-old biathlete Anne Bunemann de Besche has officially switched her sports citizenship from Norway to Denmark. The athlete made this decision due to the high level of competition within the Norwegian national team, which limited her chances of consistently competing at the top international level, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
The athlete has strong ties to Denmark — a large part of her family originates from the country, and she has spent significant time there over the years. According to Anne, representing Denmark felt like a natural choice. By changing her sports affiliation, she hopes to contribute to the development of biathlon in Denmark and improve her chances of qualifying for the 2026 Olympic Games.
De Besche noted that although she spent several years within the Norwegian biathlon system, the abundance of talented athletes there made it difficult for her to fully realize her potential. Now, she is determined to be part of something meaningful — in a national team of more moderate status but with great ambition.
One of her primary goals is to help form Denmark’s first-ever women’s relay team capable of competing at the Biathlon World Championships in Oslo in 2029. Before Christmas, Anne plans to participate in all IBU Cup races with the aim of qualifying for the World Cup stage in Ruhpolding and, subsequently, for the Winter Olympics.
Previously, in 2019, she won a gold medal as part of the Norwegian team in the mixed relay at the Junior World Championships in biathlon.
