Carlos Alcaraz made history by becoming the youngest man ever to achieve a career Grand Slam, clinching the Australian Open title in a hard-fought victory against Novak Djokovic, who had previously never lost in his ten finals at Melbourne Park, reports Baltimore Chronicle via Associated Press. The top-ranked Spaniard lost the opening set as Djokovic pursued a record 25th major title but mounted a resilient comeback to triumph 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.

Alcaraz, 22, showcased extraordinary athleticism, retrieving shots that would typically be winners for his 38-year-old opponent while maintaining relentless pressure throughout the match. After sealing the win, he dropped to the court in disbelief before proceeding to shake hands with Djokovic, who acknowledged the young champion with a smile. Alcaraz then celebrated with his coaches, family, and team members in the stands.

Both players entered the final after grueling five-set semifinal victories, demonstrating exceptional fitness and stamina during a contest that lasted over three hours. The match featured multiple pivotal points, with Alcaraz converting five of sixteen break points compared to Djokovic’s two of six.

Djokovic’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam singles title has now been thwarted by either Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in nine major tournaments, despite Djokovic defeating Sinner in the semifinals and seeking to become the oldest man to win a Grand Slam in the Open era.

At 22 years and 272 days, Alcaraz surpasses Don Budge’s 1938 record as the youngest man to complete all four major singles titles. This victory gives Alcaraz seven major titles in total: his first in Australia, along with two each at Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open.
