Jackie the bald eagle died early Monday after more than 3 weeks of intensive veterinary care in California. The famous Big Bear eagle had been critically ill following an apparent fight with other eagles. Her story attracted thousands of viewers who followed the Big Bear nest camera, according to Baltimore Chronicle.
The Ojai Raptor Center confirmed that Patient 26-519 died on August 10. Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates the nest cameras, had identified the rescued bird as Jackie.
What happened to Jackie the Big Bear bald eagle
Jackie was rescued in July after an apparent altercation with 2 subadult eagles. She was found grounded and unable to fly before being transferred for specialist treatment.
Her condition remained critical despite periods of improvement. Veterinarians treated severe anemia and kidney inflammation. Jackie also received a blood transfusion, oxygen therapy and continuous monitoring.
During the final days, her condition deteriorated again. Her remains were transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Jackie and Shadow became stars of the Big Bear eagle cam
Jackie and her longtime partner Shadow became famous through the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam. Their nesting life attracted a large international audience.
The pair’s recent story includes several major events:
