US President Donald Trump announced that during a recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, they achieved “significant progress” on issues related to ending the war against Ukraine. The American leader shared this update on his Truth Social page, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Truth Social.

According to Trump, the parties agreed to hold a series of meetings between their advisors next week. The US delegation at these discussions will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump noted that these consultations will pave the way for a personal meeting between the two presidents, which has been scheduled to take place in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.

“President Putin and I will meet at an agreed location, Budapest, to discuss the possibility of ending this ‘inglorious’ war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said, emphasizing that the goal of the upcoming talks is to explore practical avenues for peace.

Trump also mentioned that he plans to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the conversation with Putin during their meeting at the White House on October 17, where the United States’ position on future diplomatic steps toward peace will be discussed.

Beyond the Ukrainian issue, the leaders addressed a ceasefire in the Middle East and potential trade relations between the US and Russia after the war in Ukraine concludes. During the call, the discussion also touched on humanitarian matters, particularly regarding children affected by the conflict.

“President Putin thanked First Lady Melania Trump for her work with children impacted by the war. He expressed sincere gratitude and noted that this effort will continue,” Trump said, summarizing that both sides are ready for further steps toward achieving peace.
