Harvard University has filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging a decision by the Trump administration that prohibits the institution from admitting international students. The policy jeopardizes the education of approximately 6,800 international students, including about 20 from Ukraine, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing The New York Times.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security revoked Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), effectively barring the university from enrolling new international students and continuing the education of those already studying. The university stated that this action violates its constitutional rights and harms the academic community.
A federal judge has temporarily blocked the enforcement of the decision, allowing Harvard to continue accepting international students until further legal proceedings. The outcome of the case is expected to significantly impact U.S. higher education policy.
