NBU Issues New Coins for Independence Day: Three Symbols of Ukraine

To mark Ukraine’s Independence Day, the NBU issued a set of silver coins dedicated to the national symbols: the Coat of Arms, Flag, and Anthem.

On August 24, to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) introduced a set of silver commemorative coins dedicated to the country’s key state symbols — the Coat of Arms, the Anthem, and the Flag. This set is titled “State Symbols of Ukraine,” reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing the NBU. Its main purpose is to remind citizens of the significance of national symbols, both for the state and its people.

The set of coins is dedicated to the most valuable attributes of Ukrainian independence: the Trident, the Flag, and the Anthem. The Trident is a symbol of the heritage of the Kievan State of Volodymyr the Great, representing unity, freedom, and the right to self-determination. The blue and yellow Flag of Ukraine, reflecting the colors of the sky and wheat, symbolizes prosperity and the natural wealth of the country. The Anthem “Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished” has served as a spiritual uplift for the nation for over a century, remaining a symbol of the struggle for independence.

NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy emphasized the importance of these symbols, noting that they unite generations, shape national memory, and serve as a reminder of the invaluable nature of freedom. “These coins are not just metal; they are part of our shared history, reminding us of the foundation of unity, dignity, and memory,” he added.
