The Russian Federation is preparing separate air assault brigades: ISW revealed where they will be used

ISW reported this information, reports URA-Inform.

Russia is preparing separate air assault brigades that will be able to land from helicopters and attack Ukrainian Armed Forces fortifications from the rear. Russian sources noted that this is a new concept for the Russian military, and drew parallels with Soviet operations in Afghanistan.

This will likely involve helicopter landings to quickly deploy personnel, as was the case during the initial battles for Gostomel airport near Kiev on February 24, 2022.

«Russian sources claim that such an air assault brigade — 49th separate — is already operating in the Zaporozhye direction as part of the 58th Combined Arms Army», — says the ISW summary.

These brigades, as analysts at the Institute for the Study of War suggest, will be used outside the framework of traditional airborne forces, and as another means of conducting grueling frontal infantry-led attacks on Ukrainian fortified positions in the short term .

We recall that it was previously reported that Malyar named the Russians’ goal at the moment: and this is not a major offensive.
