USDA cuts Ukraine’s wheat forecast, raises soybean outlook

by Jake Harper
The USDA lowered its wheat production forecast for Ukraine to 22 million tons, while soybean output is expected to reach a record 7.6 million tons.

In its July report, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reduced its forecast for Ukraine’s wheat production in the 2025/26 marketing year by 1 million tons — to 22 million tons, which marks a 4.35% decrease compared to its June estimate, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing Interfax-Ukraine.

The projection for corn production remained unchanged. However, the soybean forecast was revised significantly upward — to 7.6 million tons, up 1 million tons from the previous estimate and 15.15% higher than last season. This figure exceeds the previous all-time high of 7 million tons.

Ukraine’s wheat export expectations were also lowered by 1 million tons — to 15.5 million tons. Meanwhile, the country’s ending wheat stocks were adjusted slightly upward by 0.1 million tons — to 1.59 million tons.

As for corn, Ukraine is projected to harvest 30.5 million tons in the 2025/26 marketing year, with exports totaling 24 million tons and ending stocks estimated at 0.6 million tons.

The report emphasizes that global soybean supply and demand projections for 2025/26 reflect higher overall availability, increased processing volumes, reduced exports, and rising ending stocks. The most notable change came from Ukraine, where output was unexpectedly raised by 1 million tons due to updated government data on planting progress.
