World-renowned supermodel Bella Hadid has been hospitalized due to a flare-up of Lyme disease, a condition she was first diagnosed with in 2013, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing the model’s Instagram.
The 28-year-old shared a series of photos from the hospital, where she appeared under IV drips. According to Hadid, her illness was the reason for her temporary absence from the public eye.
Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, who has also battled Lyme disease for many years, commented on her daughter’s condition in an emotional post. She revealed that Bella “suffers in silence” and admitted that witnessing her daughter’s struggle has become her “deepest wound of despair.” Yolanda emphasized that the illness is an “invisible disability” that is difficult for others to understand.
She also noted that despite countless setbacks over the past fifteen years, she continues her search for effective treatment. Addressing Bella, she praised her strength and determination: “No child should suffer from an incurable chronic illness. I am proud of your bravery and the way you keep fighting.”
Bella Hadid has been battling Lyme disease for more than 17 years. The same diagnosis was given to her mother and her brother Anwar. Due to health complications, the model has repeatedly been forced to pause her career. In 2022, Hadid stated that she was beginning to feel improvement, but the illness has once again resurfaced.
