The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina failed to make it to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami (USA).

In her opening match at these competitions, 29- the summer native of Odessa (No. 17 WTA) lost to the former world No. 1 racket of Japan Naomi Osaka (No. 229 WTA).

The fight lasted 1 hour 31 minutes and ended in Elina’s defeat with a score of 2: 6, 6:7.

Note that this was the seventh personal meeting between tennis players in history. Svitolina defeated Osaka three times and was defeated four times.

Another Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya(No. 33 WTA) also completed her performances at the tournament in Miami. In the 1/16 finals, the 23-year-old native of Odessa lost to Maria Sakkari (No. 9 WTA) from Greece.

The match lasted 2 hours 4 minutes and ended in Yastremskaya’s defeat with a score of 5:7, 4:6. This was the first personal meeting between the tennis players.

Thus, Ukraine at the tournament in Miami was left to be represented only by Angelina Kalinina, who in the third round sensationally knocked out the second racket world Belarusian Arina Sabalenka.

For reaching the quarterfinals, Kalinina (No. 36 WTA) will fight with Moscow native Yulia Putintseva (No. 68 WTA), who represents Kazakhstan.
