Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina made a strong start at Roland Garros by confidently defeating Turkey’s Ipek Soylu in the opening round. The match lasted just 61 minutes, with Svitolina giving her opponent little chance — 6–1, 6–1. The tournament is held on clay courts in Paris, reports the Baltimore Chronicle.
Ranked 19th in the WTA rankings, Svitolina showed excellent form, dominating from the very first rallies. She converted five out of nine break points and allowed Soylu to win only two games throughout the entire match.
Soylu, currently No. 157 in the world, made her Grand Slam main draw debut after a successful qualifying campaign, during which she won three consecutive matches to earn a spot in the first round.
In the second round, Svitolina will face Serbian player Olga Danilović, who advanced after beating Britain’s Harriet Dart in her opener.
