Late on Saturday night, intense clashes erupted along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border after Afghan Taliban fighters launched an assault on several Pakistani border outposts, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing Reuters.
According to local authorities in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province, Taliban representatives claimed to have seized control of two Pakistani border checkpoints. Pakistani security forces confirmed the confrontations in at least five different areas along the border, stating that they were conducting retaliatory operations in response to the attacks.
Meanwhile, Afghan officials accused Islamabad of carrying out airstrikes on Kabul and the eastern province of Paktika last Thursday. Afghanistan’s leadership has vowed to respond if such attacks continue. Pakistan, however, has neither confirmed nor denied conducting the alleged air operations.
