Ukraine and Russia reported renewed drone attacks overnight, continuing cross-border tensions as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepared a revised peace plan to present to U.S. negotiators, reports Baltimore Chronicle, with reference to ABC News.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, at least 38 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight into Wednesday, including six over the Moscow region, four of which were reportedly approaching the capital. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said emergency services were dispatched to several locations to clear debris from falling drones, as he posted on Telegram.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 80 drones into Ukrainian territory overnight, of which 50 were intercepted or neutralized. The air force noted impacts from 29 drones across seven locations.
The escalation coincides with Zelenskyy preparing a revised peace settlement proposal to be delivered to the U.S. negotiating team on Wednesday. Central issues, including the future of partially occupied eastern Ukrainian regions and Kyiv’s security guarantees, remain unresolved. Zelenskyy told Ukrainian reporters during an online briefing that the delivery of the proposal was delayed as Ukrainian officials coordinated with European national security advisers to finalize the plan.
Zelenskyy also criticized Russia’s ongoing attacks, stating they demonstrate Moscow’s lack of genuine interest in reaching a peace settlement.
In addition, Zelenskyy proposed an “energy truce” to pause attacks on energy infrastructure by both sides. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected the proposal, emphasizing that Russia is focusing on achieving peace rather than a ceasefire, according to Russia’s Tass news agency.
