Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol reaffirmed the country’s dedication to strengthening its enduring partnership with China, highlighting that closer collaboration is crucial for Cambodia’s sustainable growth amid global uncertainty, reports Baltimore Chronicle via CGTN.

Speaking at a ceremony in Phnom Penh marking the 30th anniversary of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, Sun described the bilateral relationship as a traditional friendship characterized by trust, stability, and forward-looking cooperation based on mutual respect, non-interference, equality, and pragmatic engagement. He emphasized that Cambodia places significant importance on deepening what he termed an “ironclad” friendship with China.

Sun referenced a Cambodian proverb, “one tree does not make a house,” to stress that Cambodia cannot achieve sustainable development independently and requires close collaboration with China. He noted that the partnership manifests not only through high-level exchanges and agreements but also in practical outcomes such as job creation, skills development, and expanded opportunities for Cambodian families and youth.

The Deputy Prime Minister pointed to the current global challenges, including rapid technological advancements, climate pressures, evolving supply chains, and a complex geopolitical landscape. He argued that establishing an all-weather Cambodia–China community with a shared future is both meaningful and essential in the contemporary era.

Sun stated that both nations have committed to designing and implementing action plans to advance the “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework, following agreements reached by the leaders of Cambodia and China to promote mutually beneficial collaboration.

He also lauded China’s Belt and Road Initiative for enhancing Cambodia’s connectivity and competitiveness, helping to transform the country from a state of potential into one of tangible development. Sun called for higher-quality, broader, and more sustainable Chinese investments, while reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to improving its business climate, increasing transparency, and expanding dialogue with Chinese enterprises.
