Telegram not working worldwide became a major search query after t.me links suddenly stopped opening on July 13. The messenger remained operational, but browser access to channels, profiles, groups, and bots was disrupted, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
Why Telegram Links Stopped Working Worldwide
The t.me domain received the registry-level status “serverHold.” This status removes a domain from the global Domain Name System.
The action was applied through the registry infrastructure serving Montenegro’s .me domain zone. No detailed public explanation was available when the disruption began.
As a result, browsers could no longer resolve standard Telegram short links. The problem affected shared links across websites, social networks, emails, and search results.
What Services Were Affected by the t.me Outage
The incident did not represent a complete Telegram outage. Existing users could still send messages through the mobile and desktop applications.
However, several important entry points became unavailable:
- Public channel links using t.me
- Group and private invitation links
- User profile links
- Telegram bot addresses
- Mini App and TON service links
- Wallet and collectible username pages
The disruption was especially serious for businesses and publishers. Many depend on t.me links for traffic, customer support, subscriptions, and automated services.

Telegram t.me Domain Status and User Impact
The main effects were recorded across browsers and external platforms.
| Service | Status during the incident |
|---|---|
| Telegram mobile application | Generally operational |
| Telegram desktop application | Generally operational |
| Existing chats and channels | Accessible inside the app |
| t.me browser links | Unavailable worldwide |
| New channel and group access | Disrupted |
| TON Mini Apps and Wallet links | Partially inaccessible |
Users experiencing the issue did not need to reinstall Telegram. Changing browsers or clearing application data could not restore a domain removed from global DNS.
Telegram documentation confirms that t.me addresses serve as official deep links. They connect browsers and other applications with Telegram chats and services.
When Will Telegram Links Work Again?
Restoration depends on removing the “serverHold” status and returning t.me to the global DNS system. Telegram had not initially published a detailed explanation for the suspension.
Some services began using alternative Telegram addresses where possible. However, old t.me links embedded across the internet remained dependent on the original domain.
The incident shows that Telegram links not working does not always mean Telegram servers are offline. In this case, the central problem affected the platform’s short-link domain.
