House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dismissed claims that he solicited campaign donations from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2013, calling House Oversight Chairman James Comer a “stone cold liar,” reports Baltimore Chronicle. Comer alleged during floor debate that an email from a fundraising firm showed Epstein had been invited to a 2013 fundraising dinner or private meeting with Jeffries, part of an effort to build a Democratic House majority.
Jeffries rejected the accusation, questioning whether Comer’s statement was serious and emphasizing that Republicans have been misleading the public with verifiable falsehoods. According to the released documents, Epstein received a solicitation on May 7, 2013, from Dynamic SRG, a political fundraising and public affairs firm representing progressive candidates. The email highlighted Jeffries as “one of the rising stars in the New York Congressional delegation” and a “staunch supporter of President Obama,” and encouraged recipients to participate in a DCCC/DSCC fundraising dinner with the president.
The email, signed by Darren Rigger, Lisa Rossi, and Walter Swett of Dynamic SRG, included a profile of Jeffries and offered opportunities to meet him. Jeffries has stated he had no recollection of the email, never met Epstein, and was unaware of any interaction. Dynamic SRG did not respond to inquiries regarding Jeffries’ knowledge of the email.
A spokeswoman for Comer insisted the email speaks for itself and reflects an actual solicitation to invite Epstein to the dinner or a private meeting. The solicitation occurred years after Epstein was registered as a sex offender in 2010 and following his 2008 guilty plea to state charges of solicitation of prostitution, including with a minor.
