President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Wednesday night to outline his first year in office and highlight plans for 2026, reporting Baltimore Chronicle with a focus on achievements and future initiatives. During the nearly 20-minute speech from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room, Trump reiterated criticisms of the Biden administration, praised the U.S. economy, and announced a new “warrior dividend” for service members.

Trump stated that over 1.4 million military personnel will receive a $1,776 check, funded by tariff revenues. “The checks are already on the way,” he said, emphasizing that tariffs had generated substantial revenue. He also noted that although he had previously proposed $2,000 dividend checks for low- and middle-income Americans, he did not address that initiative during this speech.

The president used the address to sharply criticize the Biden administration on immigration, crime, and the economy, highlighting affordability issues for gas, groceries, and healthcare. He emphasized efforts to reduce the costs of food, energy, and medications, and called out major health insurance companies in a bid to lower healthcare expenses.

Trump additionally previewed upcoming policy moves, including naming a new chairman of the Federal Reserve who favors lower interest rates, as well as announcing aggressive housing reform plans for 2026. He also highlighted private-sector job growth, noting that unemployment, while still low by historical standards, has risen slightly to its highest level in four years.

“Our nation is strong. America is respected, and our country is back stronger than ever before,” Trump said, projecting confidence in an economic boom. His address comes amid low approval ratings, particularly regarding the economy, according to a Quinnipiac University poll showing that only 40% of Americans approve of his handling of economic issues.

Trump’s remarks coincided with a healthcare debate on Capitol Hill, as millions of Americans face rising insurance premiums in 2026 due to expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies. He again suggested, without detailing specifics, that Americans could receive direct financial support from the government to purchase healthcare.
