KYIV, Ukraine — A Ukrainian delegation is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys on Thursday in Geneva, in preparation for another round of trilateral discussions with Russian officials, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing ABC. Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, will hold talks with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, focusing on issues ranging from postwar recovery strategies to potential prisoner exchanges, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters.

The U.S.-led diplomatic efforts have previously brought Russian and Ukrainian representatives together in Abu Dhabi and Geneva this year. Despite these meetings, no major breakthroughs have been reached in resolving key disputes stemming from Russia’s invasion, which has now entered its fifth year. Zelenskyy said Thursday’s discussions will also serve as preparation for a forthcoming trilateral meeting with Moscow officials, anticipated next week under U.S. mediation.

Witkoff confirmed on Tuesday that he will meet Umerov in Geneva, with the possibility of a subsequent trilateral meeting in Florida. The Swiss city will also host a separate round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks on Thursday. According to Witkoff, prior consultations between Ukraine and Russia have largely addressed security guarantees. Both sides remain engaged in near-daily diplomatic conversations, he added, noting that Washington is not pressuring Ukraine to compromise on any point, while Russia has demonstrated “some moderation” in its approach.

Amid the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion on Tuesday, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine remains undefeated and its population’s resolve unbroken, despite Moscow’s larger, better-equipped military and intensive bombardment of civilian areas. Ukrainian forces have recently advanced along parts of the roughly 1,250-kilometer (750-mile) eastern front, marking the largest gains since 2024, according to the Institute for the Study of War. However, these gains are unlikely to escalate into major offensives due to ongoing troop shortages, though they are expected to disrupt Russian plans for spring and summer operations.

Ukraine has also maintained near-nightly long-range drone strikes targeting Russian military and allied infrastructure deep inside Russia. Kyiv’s chief envoy to Washington reported that the U.S. State Department expressed concerns over Ukraine’s attacks on the Russian port of Novorossiysk, which affected U.S. oil interests in Kazakhstan.

In western Russia’s Smolensk region, a Ukrainian drone strike on the Dorogobuzh fertilizer plant on Wednesday caused a fire, resulting in the deaths of four workers and injuries to another ten, according to Governor Vasily Anokhin. Ukrainian authorities also reported that Russia launched 115 drones overnight, including one attack on a village in the southern Zaporizhzhia district that killed four civilians and injured a child, the State Emergency Service stated.
