Joe Kaspar, Chief of Staff to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has unexpectedly stepped down following accusations of a power grab within the Pentagon. His resignation came after he was accused of dismissing three senior officials at the Department of Defense — Dan Caldwell, Darin Selnick, and Colin Carroll — as part of an investigation into a leak of information, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing The Guardian.

Despite previous statements from Hegseth indicating that Kaspar would transition to another role within the department, Kaspar told Politico in an interview that he is returning to work in government relations and consulting, maintaining only limited ties with the Pentagon as a special government employee.

A Defense Department spokesperson confirmed the change in Kaspar’s status, noting that he will now be involved in “special projects” within the agency. The statement also expressed gratitude to Kaspar for his contributions to advancing the “America First” policy agenda.

Kaspar’s first hundred days as Chief of Staff were marked by controversy, including allegations of arriving late to meetings, failing to complete critical tasks, and displaying inappropriate behavior.
