In January 2024, individuals purchased government bonds worth UAH 546 million in the Sense SuperApp mobile bank, which is 10.5% of the total volume in 2023. For comparison, in December 2023, clients of the financial institution purchased bonds worth UAH 479 million, the press service of the nationalized Sense Bank reported.
Record monthly growth in the government bond portfolio of individuals was recorded in January and in the system as a whole. According to the National Bank, in the first month of this year, the government bond portfolio of private investors increased by UAH 4.687 billion to UAH 57.9 billion.
Thus, Sense Bank adds, Ukrainians set two records at once in January: the rate of monthly growth of the government bond portfolio and the total volume of investments in government bonds. The previous record for monthly growth in the total bond portfolio of individuals was set in July last year – then Ukrainians increased the volume of investments in government bonds by UAH 3.52 billion.
“Despite the high demand for the purchase of foreign currency in December and January, our clients mainly bought government bonds denominated in the national currency. Hryvnia securities accounted for 63.5% of the total volume of government bonds purchased by individuals in our bank. In general, the statistics for the market are exactly the opposite: the January increase in the government bond portfolio of individuals by 65% was formed due to bonds denominated in foreign currency,” noted Tatyana Popovich, director of capital markets at Sense Bank.
