At the beginning of 2024, Ukrainians kept 1 trillion 234.8 billion hryvnia in the banks of the Deposit Guarantee Fund. Despite very low rates, 35.5% of deposits were in foreign currency. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with a link to NBU data.

In what currency are deposits kept?
According to the NBU, as of January 1, 2024, there were 67.7 million deposits in 63 member banks of the Deposit Guarantee Fund.
The majority of deposits were in hryvnia: 57.9 million deposits for 796 billion hryvnia. There were 9.8 million deposits in foreign currency in the amount of 438 billion hryvnia.
At the same time, interest rates on deposits vary significantly. If in December 2023 banks paid an average of 11.7% per annum on hryvnia deposits, then on foreign currency deposits banks paid only 1.0% per annum.
Rating of banks by deposits
According to the NBU, the largest number of deposits is in the state-owned Privatbank – 464.1 billion hryvnia. Number of depositors – 24.2 million.
In second place is the state Oschad – 12.8 million depositors, amount – 192.7 billion hryvnia, on the third private Universal Bank – 8 million depositors, amount – 85.5 billion hryvnia.
Followed by foreign banks banking groups Raiffeisen Bank – number of depositors – 3.0 million, amount – 85.5 billion hryvnia and UkrSibbank – number of depositors – 2.1 million, amount – 58.8 billion hryvnia.
