Police in Plains Township are investigating the disappearance of two bodies that were reportedly stolen from their resting places in a decaying mausoleum earlier this month. The incident took place at the Good Shepherd Memorial Mausoleum on Westminster Road, where the remains of two individuals were removed sometime between November 1 and November 6, according to law enforcement officials, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing 28/22 News.

Authorities stated that the mausoleum, which has long been in a state of disrepair, became the target of a burglary that resulted in the removal of the remains from their crypts. The ownership of the property has been the subject of controversy, as the current owners reportedly claimed they were unaware that the land they purchased included a cemetery and therefore did not maintain it properly.

Public outrage over the mausoleum’s neglect dates back to November 2024, when the remains of Alice and Carl Denunzio were exhumed from the same crumbling structure. The couple had been interred there since the 1990s.

“It was awful. I couldn’t come here. Every time I would come here, I would be a wreck. I mean, it’s just a mess here and my parents didn’t deserve this,” said Denise Kumor, the Denunzios’ daughter, during the 2024 incident. Kumor and other family members watched in tears as workers carefully removed the remains of their loved ones, a moment that left the community shaken and reignited concerns about the cemetery’s condition.
