Among more than 20,000 documents related to Jeffrey Epstein released on Wednesday by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, several emails sent by the financier and convicted sex offender in 2015–2016 to friends, attorneys, and journalists regarding the prospect of Donald Trump’s presidency have been disclosed, reports Baltimore Chronicle with a reference to the abc news.
In some emails, Epstein offered journalists tips on potential leads to pursue. A particularly notable example is an exchange with New York Times reporter Landon Thomas Jr. in December 2015. Thomas initiated the conversation on December 8, 2015, referencing a 2002 New York Magazine article in which Trump described Epstein as a “terrific guy” who “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” The reporter noted that many people now expected him to have “juicy information” about Epstein and Trump.
Epstein replied in a series of emails over the next few hours, initially suggesting Thomas investigate Trump’s finances before moving to more personal matters. In one email, Epstein offered photos of Trump with women in bikinis at his house, to which Thomas responded affirmatively. It remains unclear whether Epstein actually possessed such photos or sent them to the reporter. In another message, Epstein suggested reporters “ask my houseman about Donald almost walking through the door, leaving his nose print on the glass while young women were swimming in the pool, and he was so focused he walked straight into the door.”
The new documents were released after House Democrats disclosed three emails in which Epstein discussed Trump. The committee obtained the materials following a subpoena of the Epstein Estate. The White House criticized Democrats for “selectively leaking emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative” about Trump. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that “these emails prove absolutely nothing other than that President Trump did nothing wrong.”
In exchanges with Thomas, Epstein also shared a link to a story about a woman he described as a former girlfriend who later dated Trump. During Trump’s first presidential campaign, Epstein was also in regular contact with author Michael Wolff, who was writing a book about Trump. Many messages from Wolff encouraged Epstein to speak publicly about his past relationship with the candidate.
Following Trump’s inauguration in February 2017, Epstein discussed Trump with Larry Summers, former Treasury Secretary under President Bill Clinton, noting: “I have met some very bad people, but none as bad as Trump. Not one decent cell in his body… yes, dangerous.” In subsequent 2018 correspondence, Epstein shared details with former White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler about a potential Trump impeachment after his personal lawyer Michael Cohen pled guilty.
