Nearly 29 years after 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered in her Boulder, Colorado, home, the investigation remains an active priority, Baltimore Chronicle reports. Authorities continue urging anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn confirmed that over the past year, investigators have collected new evidence and re-examined existing evidence in hopes of uncovering fresh leads. In addition, the department conducted new interviews and re-interviews, though specific details about the evidence tested and individuals questioned have not been released.
The murder occurred on the morning of December 26, 1996, when John and Patsy Ramsey discovered their daughter missing and a handwritten ransom note on the stairs of their home. Later that day, John Ramsey found JonBenet’s body in the basement. An autopsy revealed she had been sexually assaulted, strangled, and suffered a fractured skull. Investigators also recovered unknown DNA from her fingernails and underwear.
John and Patsy Ramsey, along with their son, were officially cleared as suspects in 2008. Patsy Ramsey passed away in 2006. Redfearn stated that he has met with the Ramsey family and emphasized the shared goal of bringing JonBenet’s killer to justice.
The police chief reiterated that the case remains a top priority and encouraged anyone with information to contact the Boulder Police Department. Those with potential leads can call the tipline at 303-441-1974 or email BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov.
