Ukraine is sending a senior delegation to the United States on Saturday for further discussions regarding the Trump administration’s revised peace plan, following recent talks in Geneva last week, reports Baltimore Chronicle. The delegation will be led by Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, resigned Friday amid an anti-corruption scandal.
Also included in the delegation is Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s chief of military intelligence, along with senior military, security, and foreign ministry officials. The upcoming discussions aim to ensure the agreements reached in Geneva are fully implemented and to “swiftly and substantively work out the steps needed to end the war,” according to Zelenskyy.
In a social media post on Saturday, Zelenskyy emphasized that Umerov’s team is already en route to the U.S. and will provide a full briefing on Sunday. “Ukraine continues to work with the United States in the most constructive way possible, and we expect that the results of the Geneva meetings will now be hammered out in the United States,” Zelenskyy said. “Ukraine is working for a dignified peace.”
Meanwhile, Kyiv experienced a major attack overnight into Saturday. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that the strike demonstrates Russia’s determination to prolong the conflict despite ongoing peace negotiations. He called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia, provide additional defense support to Ukraine, impose stronger sanctions, and enable full use of frozen Russian assets.
Sybiha wrote on X that Russia continues to pursue a “war plan” aimed at destruction, and while the war cannot be won by Moscow, the international community has the capacity to make the cost unbearable. “We urge additional support for Ukraine’s defense and resilience, additional strong sanctions on Russia, and a swift decision to enable the full use of frozen Russian assets,” he said.
