Columbia skate park will open to the public on Friday, June 5, 2026, inside Blandair Park in Howard County. The new 15,000-square-foot site is part of Phase 6 of the park’s long master plan. The opening also brings new pickleball and basketball courts to the area, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
What will open at Blandair Park
The new Blandair Skatepark is being described as Howard County’s largest skate park. Officials expect strong community interest because the project has been discussed for years. Crews were still finishing final work before the grand opening.
New facilities include:
- 15,000-square-foot skate park
- 6 pickleball courts
- 2 basketball courts
- space for public events and youth activities
The opening is designed as a community celebration. Visitors will also see skate demonstrations, lessons, food trucks and games for children.

Why the skate park matters for Columbia
For local skaters, the project is more than new concrete. Columbia skateboarder Aaron Botkin said the park is something he wished he had while growing up. He believes skating teaches perseverance, independence and creativity.
“It teaches you perseverance, independence, creativity, and it’s just a fun way to get outside and hang out with your friends.”
The park is also expected to help rebuild the local skate scene. Beginners will have space to learn, while experienced riders get a larger public facility.
