Meta Plus subscriptions are becoming the company’s new paid layer for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. The move does not turn these apps into paid services. Basic messaging, posting, calls and social features remain free. The new plans target users who want more control, privacy tools and deeper Story analytics, as the newsroom of Baltimore Chronicle notes via Meta.
Meta adds paid tools without closing free access
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are expected to cost $3.99 per month. WhatsApp Plus is cheaper, at $2.99 per month. The pricing shows Meta is not selling access to the apps themselves. It is selling extra comfort for heavy users, creators and people who watch Stories closely.
The most sensitive feature is anonymous Story viewing. Subscribers will be able to watch part of someone’s Story without appearing in the viewers list. This could attract ordinary users, but also raise new questions about digital privacy.
What users get in Instagram and Facebook Plus
The new plans focus on Stories, visibility and profile customization. Before choosing a subscription, users should understand what really changes. These tools are useful mostly for active accounts, not casual viewers.
- anonymous viewing of selected Stories;
- extended Story lifetime beyond 24 hours;
- deeper Story statistics and replay data;
- search inside the viewers list;
- hidden profile posts that do not appear in followers’ feeds;
- unique themes, reactions, stickers and the new Super Heart reaction.
These features make Instagram and Facebook more flexible. They also show how Meta wants to monetize behavior that already exists on its platforms. For creators, advanced analytics may be the strongest reason to pay.

WhatsApp Plus focuses on design and convenience
WhatsApp Plus looks less ambitious than the social media plans. It does not make messages or calls paid. Users still keep free access to core chats, voice calls and video calls.
| Service | Monthly price | Main paid features |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Plus | $3.99 | Story privacy, analytics, customization |
| Facebook Plus | $3.99 | Story tools, hidden posts, reactions |
| WhatsApp Plus | $2.99 | Premium stickers, ringtones, themes, more pinned chats |
This pricing keeps WhatsApp close to its simple identity. Meta is adding personalization, not a paywall. That distinction matters for users who fear losing free messaging.
Meta Verified remains separate
The new Plus plans do not replace Meta Verified. That service still focuses on verification, account protection and support for creators or businesses. Plus subscriptions are different. They are built around premium features, not identity checks.
For Meta, the logic is clear. Advertising remains its main engine, but paid extras create another revenue stream. For users, the choice will depend on one question: are better Stories and more customization worth a monthly fee?
