Kazakhstan and Turkey discussed the possibility of increasing oil exports through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the possibility of increasing Kazakhstan’s oil exports through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. The talks took place on July 30 during a meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing Reuters. One of the key topics of the meeting was the expansion of export volumes through the BTC pipeline.

A statement from Kazakhstan’s presidential press service indicated that the delegations addressed prospects for energy sector cooperation. However, no additional details about potential export volumes or timelines for these plans were disclosed.

According to state statistics, Kazakhstan increased its oil exports through BTC by 12% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 785,000 tons. The bulk of shipments are made via tankers from the Aktau port across the Caspian Sea to Baku. However, to further increase exports, the port requires modernization.

In the first half of 2025, Kazakhstan’s oil exports bypassing Russian ports accounted for 5.9% of the total volume of 32.6 million tons, a figure that remained steady compared to 2024.
