American reality TV star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian has revealed that she has been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. The announcement came during a teaser for the seventh season of her reality show “The Kardashians,” which premiered Thursday on Hulu, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing The New York Times.
In the promotional clip, the 45-year-old Kardashian can be heard saying, “There’s like a little aneurysm,” while her sister Kourtney Kardashian Barker reacts with surprise, replying, “Whoa.” The teaser also shows Kim undergoing what appears to be a brain scan, likely an MRI.
Kardashian suggested that stress might have contributed to the condition. According to medical experts, brain aneurysms are relatively common — about one in every 50 people has an unruptured aneurysm, and most are unaware of it because such aneurysms typically cause no symptoms.
It remains unclear whether Kardashian is experiencing any symptoms herself. Her representatives have not responded to media requests for comment.
Doctors note that large or growing aneurysms can, in rare cases, cause severe headaches, weakness, speech difficulties, or balance problems. If an aneurysm ruptures, the results can be life-threatening — often described by patients as “the worst headache of their lives.” Other symptoms may include nausea, double vision, confusion, loss of consciousness, or seizures. A ruptured aneurysm can lead to a stroke, brain damage, or even death.
Dr. Shazam Hussain, director of the Cerebrovascular Center at the Cleveland Clinic, compared aneurysms to “a weak spot on a tire.” He emphasized that not all aneurysms require immediate treatment — many can simply be monitored if they pose no imminent risk.
Dr. Aditya Pandey, chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Michigan Health, said that treatment decisions depend on the aneurysm’s size, shape, and location, as well as the patient’s family history. Factors such as smoking and uncontrolled high blood pressure can increase the likelihood of rupture.
“They’re not always as dangerous as people think — many can just be observed,” Dr. Hussain added. “And when treatment is necessary, we now have highly effective and safe procedures available.”
Addressing Kardashian’s suggestion that stress caused her aneurysm, Dr. Hussain noted that there is no clear evidence directly linking stress to aneurysms. However, chronic stress can elevate blood pressure, which in turn raises the risk of developing or worsening the condition. The most significant risk factors, according to experts, remain high blood pressure, smoking, and family history.
