On September 9, during its fall product presentation, Apple officially unveiled the new iPhone Air. The device stands out with its ultra-thin design and the complete removal of the traditional SIM card slot, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
Apple has been supporting eSIM technology for quite some time. Since 2022, the company has been selling models in the United States that rely solely on embedded electronic SIM cards.
However, the iPhone Air became the first Apple smartphone to be launched on the global market without any option to use a physical SIM card.
According to Kester Mann, an analyst at CCS Insight, Apple’s move “marks the beginning of the end for the physical SIM card.”
