Microsoft has announced a major artificial intelligence upgrade for Windows 11, designed to make its Copilot virtual assistant more intuitive and functional for users. The company unveiled a range of new features aimed at simplifying task automation and improving connectivity across devices, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Reuters.
Windows 11 users can now activate Copilot using the voice command “Hey Copilot.” This new opt-in feature not only launches the assistant but also allows users to perform tasks using voice instructions.
The company has also expanded Copilot Vision, a feature that analyzes the content on users’ screens and provides relevant answers. This capability is now available in all markets where Copilot is offered. Additionally, Windows Insiders will soon be able to interact with Vision using text commands, not just voice.
Microsoft is stepping up efforts to boost Copilot adoption to strengthen its position in the AI space amid competition from Google and Meta, which have been integrating their own digital assistants into apps, devices, and browsers.
The update also introduces an experimental Copilot Actions mode, allowing the assistant to perform real-world tasks such as booking restaurant reservations or ordering groceries directly from the Windows desktop. A similar capability was previously rolled out for Microsoft’s web browser in May.
Microsoft emphasized that initially, Copilot will operate with limited permissions and will only access resources explicitly granted by the user.
Another addition is Gaming Copilot, embedded into Xbox Ally consoles. This tool provides players with real-time tips, recommendations, and support during gameplay.
“We believe we are on the verge of the next evolution, where AI becomes naturally integrated into everyday experiences—not just in chatbots, but across hundreds of millions of tasks people perform daily,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer for consumer products.
