US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on all smartphones manufactured outside the United States. This decision directly affects companies that do not have production facilities within the US, notably Samsung Electronics, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing MSN.

Samsung, which produces most of its smartphones in Vietnam and India, could face a substantial price hike for its products on the American market. Analysts estimate that Galaxy device prices may increase by 30–40%. Specifically, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to cost up to $2,500 in the US.

Trump emphasized that the tariffs will not apply to companies that relocate their production to the US. He stated that this move aims to stimulate domestic manufacturing and ensure fair trade conditions.

The announcement is part of a broader trade strategy by the Trump administration, which also includes a proposed 50% tariff on goods from the European Union. Although these tariffs were postponed until July 9 following negotiations with the European Commission, the smartphone tariffs could come into effect by the end of June.

Previously, during Trump’s first term, Apple received exemptions from tariffs on certain components, and Samsung avoided tariffs by not producing in China. However, the new measures are designed to treat all manufacturers equally, regardless of their origin.

These actions have raised concerns among consumers and experts, who fear rising smartphone prices and potential disruptions in supply chains. Manufacturers, including Samsung, are currently evaluating possible responses to the new trade conditions.
