The EU extended sanctions against individuals linked to Russia for another six months

Today, March 12, the Council of the European Union decided to extend restrictive measures against persons responsible for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for another six months, until September 15, 2024. Providing sanctions

The sanctions include restricting the movement of individuals, freezing assets and prohibiting the provision of funds or other economic resources to individuals and legal entities on the sanctions list.

Sanctions will continue to apply to more than 2,100 individuals and legal entities that were included in the sanctions list in response to Russia's ongoing unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine.

The EU Council also decided not to extend sanctions against three people and to remove nine dead from the list.

The European Council also said that Russia's ability to wage an aggressive war should be further weakened, in particular by further strengthening sanctions , as well as through their full and effective implementation and the prevention of their circumvention.

Today, March 12, the European Parliament voted in favor of a directive to criminalize the violation and circumvention of European Union sanctions.

The Directive ensures that penalties for violations and circumvention of sanctions will be dissuasive. Because this will be considered a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment for up to 5 years in all member states.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance wrote that on February 23, 2024, the EU approved the next, 13th, package of sanctions against Russia. It is aimed at further restricting access to military technologies and expanding the list of companies that help in the war – their number has exceeded 2 thousand.
