The Witcher has officially returned for its fourth season, marking Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt of Rivia. The new season also welcomes Laurence Fishburne, who joins the Continent as Regis — an ancient barber-surgeon who also happens to be a vampire. All eight episodes are now available for streaming. As previously announced in April, Season 4 was filmed back-to-back with the fifth and final installment, which will bring the saga to its conclusion, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Netflix.
Showrunner and screenwriter Lauren Schmidt Hissrich expressed her excitement about starting production on the penultimate season with an outstanding cast and several fresh additions led by Hemsworth. She emphasized that the team aims to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s story to a grand and emotionally fulfilling finale. According to Hissrich, the new chapters will push the characters to their very limits, revealing their deepest struggles and strengths.
The fourth and fifth seasons will adapt the remaining three novels in Sapkowski’s saga: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. As confirmed earlier, Hemsworth will portray Geralt in both final seasons, taking over from Henry Cavill. The actor shared that he is thrilled to step into the role, calling it a “dream come true for any Witcher fan.”
In the new teaser, Hemsworth appears wearing Geralt’s iconic medallion as he journeys through a fog-covered wilderness, confronting eerie threats lurking in the shadows. Viewers can already get their first glimpse of him in action, slaying monsters with familiar precision.
Season 3 concluded with the trio — Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) — once again separated. After suffering a brutal defeat at the hands of the treacherous mage Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), who is secretly aligned with Nilfgaard, Geralt retreats to recover. Upon learning that Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards) has allegedly found his daughter Ciri, Geralt sets out to rescue her, aided by Jaskier (Joey Batey) and the warrior Milva (Meng’er Zhang). However, as viewers know, the emperor’s “Ciri” is in fact a young elf apprentice named Teryn (Frances Pooley), whom Vilgefortz brainwashed into believing she was the princess.
Meanwhile, the real Ciri — after the destruction of Tor Lara tower — is transported through a portal into the barren Korath Desert, where she wrestles with her extraordinary powers while struggling to survive. Captured by nomadic traders, she is later freed by a group of rebellious youths known as the Rats. After killing her captor, Ciri adopts a new identity, Falka, inspired by a legendary rebel queen, and joins the gang.
At the same time, Yennefer remains in Aretuza, dealing with the aftermath of Vilgefortz’s betrayal and the death of her mentor Tissaia (MyAnna Buring). Despite the grief, Yennefer takes command of the sorceresses, stepping into Tissaia’s role as the new leader of Aretuza, determined to carry on her legacy.
