The first still from the upcoming drama Only What We Carry has been released as the film gears up for its world sales presentation at the European Film Market in Berlin, reports Baltimore Chronicle, with a link to Yahoo.
Only What We Carry is directed and written by Jamie Adams and represents a rare and significant acting turn for Quentin Tarantino, marking his most substantial screen role since From Dusk Till Dawn in 1996, according to reporting in Deadline. The drama features a cast that includes Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hellmann and singer Lizzy McAlpine in her feature film debut.
Production on the film, which was shot in Deauville, France, has already wrapped. The story focuses on Julian Johns, portrayed by Pegg, whose life is upended when his former student, Charlotte Levant, played by Boutella, returns home and forces him to confront unresolved emotional conflicts and buried truths. Tarantino plays John Percy, an old friend whose unexpected presence stirs long‑held secrets, while Gainsbourg appears as Josephine Chabrol, Charlotte’s protective sister, and Hellmann and McAlpine round out the ensemble.
The film is described as a reflection on love, loss and the quiet courage required to move forward, set against the windswept backdrop of the Normandy coast. Despite Tarantino’s renown for his work behind the camera, including films such as Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, he has mostly limited his on‑screen appearances to minor parts in his own projects until now.
No official release date for Only What We Carry has been announced, and it remains unclear whether the film will pursue a festival premiere prior to distribution.
