Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Nobel Peace Prize has “lost its credibility” after former U.S. President Donald Trump did not receive the award. The remarks were featured in a broadcast by the Russian state-run news agency TASS, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to TASS.
According to Putin, the Nobel Committee has repeatedly granted the Peace Prize to individuals who, in his words, “did nothing to achieve peace.” Because of this, he claimed, the award’s reputation has been “significantly undermined.”
“I do not know whether the current president of the United States deserves the Nobel Peace Prize or not,” Putin said. “But he is certainly making serious efforts to resolve long-standing crises that have lasted for years or even decades. I have already mentioned this, including the situation in Ukraine — he genuinely strives for a peaceful resolution.”
Following the Russian leader’s statement, Donald Trump responded on his Truth Social account by posting a video of Putin’s comments along with the caption: “Thank you, President Putin!”
