Severe Storms Follow Extreme Maryland Heat

The storms brought heavy rain, lightning and damaging winds during the evening. Some Fourth of July events were disrupted across Maryland.

The outage surge followed a period of dangerous heat. High electricity demand had already placed additional pressure on local infrastructure.

Residents should:

  • Check the official BGE outage map for current restoration estimates.
  • Report outages through BGE’s website, mobile application or customer service line.
  • Stay away from fallen wires and damaged electrical equipment.
  • Call 911 when power lines are sparking or creating an immediate danger.

BGE had not announced a statewide restoration deadline by Saturday night. Estimated times may vary between individual neighborhoods.

When Will Power Be Restored In Maryland?

Restoration depends on damaged equipment, blocked roads and the number of affected locations. Crews usually prioritize hazardous wires and outages affecting critical facilities.

Customers can follow individual cases through BGE’s outage tracker. The map provides updated customer totals and available restoration estimates.

Maryland power restoration efforts continued overnight as crews inspected storm damage across the hardest-hit counties.
