This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Health, Ukrinform reports.
“The vaccine contains two versions of mRNA – the “original” and “Omicron”. This is an updated version of the Comirnaty vaccine from the American company Pfizer, adapted specifically for protection against the Omicron strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The vaccine was previously approved only for booster shots. Now Ukrainians who do not have vaccinations against COVID-19, have not completed the primary vaccination, or patients for whom the doctor recommends an additional “booster vaccination” will be able to receive vaccination with an omicron-specific vaccine,” the message says.
<p In particular, the following recommendations apply to vaccination with an omicron-specific vaccine:
- Children 12-17 years old can be vaccinated with a bivalent omicron-specific vaccine (on an mRNA platform containing BA.4/5 ) for both primary vaccination and booster dose.
- Children over 12 years of age and adults who have started primary vaccination using a monovalent original vaccine can complete the course with an omicron-specific vaccine (bivalent on an mRNA platform containing BA.4/5).
- Adults over 18 years of age can be vaccinated with a bivalent omicron-specific vaccine on an mRNA platform containing BA.4/5, both for primary vaccination and for a booster dose.
Currently, as noted by the Ministry of Health, all regions are supplied with a vaccine against COVID-19. Doctors use Comirnaty vaccines (manufactured by Pfizer). A vaccine against COVID-19 is also available for children from 5 years of age (manufactured by Pfizer – Comirnaty vaccine for children) and an omicron-specific vaccine (manufactured by Pfizer), which was previously used for booster vaccinations.
Vaccination against COVID -19 in 2024 will remain free of charge for all Ukrainians. You can get vaccinated by making an appointment with your family doctor or at a vaccination point in a medical facility. After the outbreak of a full-scale war, the work of mass vaccination centers operating in shopping malls and other facilities adapted for mass vaccinations was stopped for security reasons. The network of vaccination points operating in outpatient clinics, hospitals, and primary care centers is valid. Information about the nearest vaccination points, their addresses and opening hours can be found by following the link or by calling the Ministry of Health contact center at 0 800 60 20 19. As reported, at the beginning of March 2024, more than 5.5 million cases of coronavirus were recorded in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, as of 02/29/2024, 35,830,644 vaccinations have been administered.
